چکیده

This paper explores the use of passive guides to assist a human in manipulating heavy loads. A guide acts as a frictionless rail which con nes the load to a one-dimensional curve in its con guration space. In this paper we formulate the problem of designing guides to e ectively assist the human , and we apply the formulation to two types of materials handling tasks: pushing a heavy cart and single-arm reaching motions. Guides may be implemented by xed rails or programmable constraint machines. Initial experiments with humans suggest the potential bene ts of guided manipulation.

Designing Motion Guides for Ergonomic Collaborative Manipulation

Manual materials handling of heavy loads is a common cause of low back disorders. The manual manipulation of a heavy load may be made more comfortable by constraining the load to move along a guide. If the load is constrained, the human operator can provide forces in directions that are comfortable while the frictionless guide directs the motion of the load to the goal con guration. In this pap...

Visual Odometry in Stereo Endoscopy by Using PEaRL to Handle Partial Scene Deformation

Stereoscopic laparoscopy provides the surgeon with the depth perception at the surgical site to facilitate fine micro-manipulation of soft-tissues. The technology also enables computer-assisted laparoscopy where patient specific models can be overlaid onto laparoscopic video in real-time to provide image guidance. To maintain graphical overlay alignment of image-guides it is essential to recove...

Optimal Trajectory Planning of a Box Transporter Mobile Robot

This paper aims to discuss the requirements of safe and smooth trajectory planning of transporter mobile robots to perform non-prehensile object manipulation task. In non-prehensile approach, the robot and the object must keep their grasp-less contact during manipulation task. To this end, dynamic grasp concept is employed for a box manipulation task and corresponding conditions are obtained an...

Utilization of Human Scale SPIDAR-G in the framework of Assistance to 3D interaction in a semi-immersive AR/VR platform

We have developed a generic assistance paradigm to 3D interaction that uses virtual guides to constrain the output of classical 3D interaction techniques, in order to satisfy the requirements of particular applications. In this article, we present this paradigm and its application to three different projects, dealing with robot teleoperation (constraints over precision and security), complex mo...

Accelerating Motion Planning for Learned Mobile Manipulation Tasks using Task-Guided Gibbs Sampling

We present Task-Guided Gibbs Sampling (TGGS), an approach to accelerating motion planning for mobile manipulation tasks learned from demonstrations. This method guides sampling toward configurations most likely to be useful for successful task execution while avoiding manual heuristics and preserving asymptotic optimality of the motion planner. We leverage the learned task model, which is alrea...
